All that jazz…

Darlings, I am constantly taken aback by the people who tell me The Great Gatsby is their favourite book – and then seem not to have read it. Read it, if you haven’t, it is fabulous.

And if you are looking for more summer inspiration in the same vein, may I suggest, Tender Is the Night by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I also adore, Everybody Was So Young: Gerald and Sara Murphy: A Lost Generation Love Story by Amanda Vail. This book is a veritable who’s who of the Jazz Age!
Zelda FitzgeraldSave Me the Waltz by Zelda Fitzgerald and Beloved Infidel by Sheilah Graham are both captivating in their own way. Sheilah Graham was Scott’s lover for the latter part of his life in Hollywood.
These are just a few gems to get you started. I adore the movies that have been made from these fabulous books, too — especially the captivating film Tender is the Night starring the ethereal Jennifer Jones. And even though there’s no substitute for reading Gatsby, I do think Mia Farrow as Daisy Buchanan saying, “I hope she’ll be a fool — that’s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool” — is the epitome of a Jazz Age heroine.
Darlings, make your summer sweet with inspiration – let your imagination and spirits soar. Put a little Cole Porter on your iPod, mix a cocktail, and sway through these sultry days!
