DD: What are the must-have items for spring?
KP: Lace and bold colours are big trends for spring.  There was a lot of colour blocking shown on the runway. Michael Korsshowed some great solid yellow summer dresses and BCBGhas some super-wearable lace looks. I’m dying over Prada’s multi-coloured and green platforms too.

DD: How did you develop your own sense of style?
KP: My style has definitely evolved over the years and continues to evolve. I have been inspired from my mom and people I respect, such as music legends. I dress for how I feel each day, but whether I’m wearing a kaftan or a suit, my style shines through either in the funky platform shoes or chunky ring.
DD: What are a few simple and inexpensive ways to take a look from boring to chic?
KP: Scarves are a great way to change an everyday look and make it new. Another way to change a look is to take a dress or skirt to your tailor and change a hemline. It is inexpensive and you can recreate a garment for less than buying a new piece. This season, three quarter-length skirts are back — so cut the hem off a couple of your floor-length skirts!

DD: What is your favourite look for a casual evening?
KP: I usually throw on a great maxi dress and platforms with a scarf, or leather pants and a tee-shirt. I keep it simple, but stick to statement pieces for all occasions.
DD: What do you suggest that can be worn more than once, for this season’s spring and summer weddings?
KP: I would suggest a simple, solid-colored cocktail dress in black that is easy to accessorize. You want it to be simple, so that you can change it up with some great costume jewelry and big, bright platform shoes.  This draws the attention away from the dress. I would stick with a loose easy silhouette in chiffon for summer and have fun with shoes and accessories!

DD: What are your favourite high-low brands/designers?
KP: I am known for combining high-end designers with lower-priced point brands. One of my all-time favorite designers is Stella McCartney, and I love her collections every season. I think they are timeless and made impeccably. I’ll wear a Stella Sweater with a tee-shirt from Top Shop. Another mid-priced brand with great quality is All Saints.  They have great leather jackets and basics. I’m also in love with the Raquel Allegra tee-shirts.

DD: Why is style important?
KP: Personal style is a way of self-expression and gives you the freedom to show yourself in a way that represents your personality. You should take advantage of that.

DD: How would you describe your own style?
KP: My style is definitely a mix of West coast ease and East coast glamour. I am super-inspired by the ‘70s and the lifestyle of that era.

DD: What are your three fashion must-haves?
KP: Scarf, leather jacket, and kaftans.

DD: What are your favourite beauty must-haves?
KP: Mascara, NARS Orgasm Illuminator, Clarisonic, tweezers, and sun block.

DD: What is always in your hand-bag?
KP:   Blackberry, iPhone, iPod, gum, chap stick, Dior Favori Rouge, and old boarding passes.
DD: What are three of your best fashion or beauty tips?
KP: 1. Don’t second-guess yourself, and believe in your own personal style;
        2. Experiment and have fun with fashion to find out what works for you and
             your body type;
         3. Always use sun block everyday!

DD: How do film and TV influence fashion?
Over the years movie stars have become “style icons.” In fashion, trends come full circle and designers look to actors, actresses, and their characters for inspiration. Season after season, you hear that designers have based their collection on a movie or a famous and stylish character, such as Katharine Hepburn, Grace Kelly, and Audrey Hepburn. Not only is fashion inspired by TV and film, but by music and artists as well. David Bowie has inspired multiple fall collections this season, from Dries Van Note, Lanvin (menswear), Richard Nicoll and Mr. by Roland Mouret.
