Perfect beach book

Missing Persons by Clare O’Donohue is the first book in a new series by the author of the Someday Quilt Series.

This time O’Donohue infuses her background as a TV producer into her heroine Kate Conaway, who works, ironically, for true crime TV shows. When her estranged husband dies under suspicious circumstances, Kate must re-examine her relationship as she tries to solve the mystery of his death.

As she reconstructs the days before his death, Kate slowly realizes how little she knew about her own husband or her marriage. At the same time she and her crew are filming what seems to a simple and tragic disappearance of young woman, but turns out to be much more sinister.

O’Donohue paints memorable characters against a vivid Chicago background. But what makes the story sing is her subtle and deft way of exposing human fragility and vulnerability. I found the relationships in this book fascinating and compelling.

This proves to be a promising start to a captivating series.
