How to “sleep” with your lover

A bew love is sweet , but caan leave you sleepless! Often new couples have no trouble going to bed together, but then they find getting a good night sleep together is not always so easy. The National Sleep Foundation reports that more than 25 percent of couples say sleeping with their lover is keeping them up at night.
Sleeping with a partner who snores can be detrimental to both of you. So can different schedules and other bad sleep habits. To learn to how to sleep more soundly with your lover, try these tips from Dr. David Volpi, M.D., an otolaryngology surgeon. He has more than 20 years of experience and founded Eos Sleep Center, formerly Manhattan Snoring and Sleep Center.
Here are Dr. Volpi’s tips:
 Develop good sleep hygiene habits:
·        Bedtime: Get into the habit of going to bed and waking up at the same time each day. This helps set your internal clock.
·        Caffeine: Limit your caffeine intake. The effects of caffeine can last up to 12 hours or more, and can prohibit your ability to fall and stay asleep.
·        Exercise: Don’t exercise too late at night – preferably not within three hours before you go to sleep to give your body a chance to unwind and cool down.
·        Consistency: Couples should get into a pattern of going to sleep and waking up around the same time every day, including on weekends.

Control snoring with lifestyle changes:
·        Lose Weight: Because excess weight is the most common contributing factor to snoring, even those who are just mildly overweight find that shedding a few pounds can significantly reduce snoring.
·        Quit Smoking: Tossing the cigarettes and cigars can be a snoring solution because smoking leads to irritation and dryness of mucous membranes.
·        Reducing Alcohol, Sedatives, and Sedating Antihistamine: These things all lower muscle tone in the upper airways, causing increased airway resistance and snoring.
·        Sleep Position: An increased amount of obstruction occurs when you sleep on your back. This is called positional snoring. Change your position at night or elevate the head of the bed to improve snoring. *Sleep on your side to reduce snoring.
