Indian for Everyone: The Home Cook’s Guide to Traditional Favorites by Anupy Singla is not for the gourmet foodie who wants to recreate Indian restaurant dishes, but it will delight the discerning home cook with a yen for Indian food. Singla is a popular Chicago cooking teacher so she is used to making a sometimes-intimidating cuisine accessible. 

I like this book much more than many similar books that try to simplify Indian food for the home cook. Singla keeps her ingredients and flavours authentic and robust. 

There are good explanations of ingredients and techniques for beginners but her dishes are complex and authentic enough to please a seasoned cook and traveler. 

I loved her lentil dishes and spicy potato patties. And while I cringed at Vegan Sloppy Joes (I cringe at all types of Sloppy Joes) I can see it becoming a favourite for many families. 

This book is beautifully illustrated and easy to follow. There are recipes for all types of dishes and many vegetarian and vegan options are included. This is a great book for a busy family cook or a beginning Indian cook.
