Don’t hate Valentine’s Day

graceyhitchcock (2)Click on the topmost title to open

Valentine’s Day can generate so much hatred — and it is so silly.

I say celebrate love and chocolate every chance you get. Get your dose of “feel good” love

from your lover, friends, or even from yourself. Pamper and appreciate your friends and yourself.

Looking for love – or a date? You have sometime before February 14th so try wearing red

or pink every day from now until then it is the colour of attraction. Smile

. Watch what happens when you smile.  You never know until you try.

Celebrate love – it is makes life sweet.

Don’t rush the season but….

Gracey Hitchcock,Click on the topmost title to open

Darlings, I love the trend to slow things down. I have fully enjoyed fall without Christmas carols and reindeer.  Now as we approach the holiday season I am ready to enjoy the all decorations and holiday music.

It has been nice to have time to savour the beauty of fiery foliage and rows bright pumpkins and squash.

So this afternoon, I am going settle down with my little iPad mini and try  get my shopping done.

Respect

Gracey Hitchcock,Click on the topmost title to open and scroll to open

No one is perfect. We all mess up sometimes. May be we feel overwhelmed or have take on too much –or we just mess up and hurt someone. If we are smart we straighten things out and if necessary make amends. But, the ebb and flow of this type of behaviour should be very limited.

When it comes to being on time, respect, kindness and all the little niceties that make up a friendship if the scales are not balanced, you might be the problem. Because, my darlings – and I am guilty of this, too – people will treat the way you let them.

So if friends are careless with your friendship, gently remind them of the missed appointment or other offence. Don’t lecture but be firm about the problem. If a friend or colleague is dismissive of your work or help – and this happened to me recently – don’t offer it so easily again, no matter how sweetly they ask. Believe me, no matter how coolly they receive the information people get the message. This isn’t about playing a game of tit-for-tat – it is about standing up for your value and demanding to be treated as you deserve. When it comes to respect, actions speak louder than words.

Happy Thanksgiving to all our Canadian Friends and Happy Columbus Day!

The magic of fashion

smdeserClick the topmost title and scroll

Each new fashion season there are more voices and more choices. Gone are the days of a single look or an “it bag”. Now a fashionable woman is free to choose clothes that resonate with her life and spirit.

This is a marvelous freedom for those confident about their look. And it can be confusing for those who are less confident. Even fashion editors seem to struggle these days to find the strongest themes each season and the best way to describe them.

Looking at the collections for fall 2015 I am often reminded of Yves St. Laurent’s dramatic Ballet Russes Collection, Fall 1976. The historic collection was sweeping and romantic.

Looking at the fall collections from Alberta Ferretti, Vita Kin and Lanvin, I was instantly taken back to the opulent fur, embroidery, velvets and brocade of St. Laurent’s epic Ballet Russes.

Women adored that collection and the passion it embodied. One look at the gorgeous fur hats, velvets, and satins, and women could imagine themselves as the heroine of an epic.YSL Les Ballet Russe

The power of clothes to transform or enhance is the magic of fashion. It doesn’t require a jeweled ball gown or embroidered velvet skirt. A flattering pink sweater, great boots, or anything that makes you feel and look special can work the spell.

When you shop for anything this fall – no matter what your budget – don’t settle for ordinary and dull. Buy something that makes you feel bewitching.

Summer is fleeting so savour it.

The last fleeting days are here so make them count.

Savour summer!

Gracey HitchcockClick on the topmost title to open and scroll

Enjoy the summer. Stay cool the same ways you did as a child, if the heat starts to make you cranky. Go to the movies, sit by the shore or by a river, and catch a cooling breeze. Spend time with friends at pretty café or on your own back deck. Everyone can stay up later when the days are longer, so make the most of warm evenings. Look up at the night sky and wish upon a star.

Summer is fleeting so savour it.

Summer memories

graceyhitchcockClick topmost title to open and scroll

Summer is the time to make memories.  Long days let even busy people linger over drinks, take walks with friends, and laugh over long dinners on a patio. For some magical reason most us need less sleep when the weather is warmer. We can stay up late on a weeknight to go to a movie or listen to jazz in a club.

Make summer memories. It will be fall before you know it.

Summer is short, so enjoy the sweetness! Happy holiday!

Lighten up for warmer weather

graceyhitchcockClick the topmost title to open and scroll

This is the perfect time of year to think about lightening up. Take a look at everything in your life that can be made better by being easier or lighter. With warmer weather you may want to serve salad and green vegetable for dinner  and skip the starch.  Your skin might look better and feel better with a lighter lotion or cream. You can store your  nice, rich pricy cream or oil in a cool place for fall. Often breakouts can be caused from using a too heavy cream in hot weather –especially with sun screen.

Clear away heavy, cozy items from your home and enjoy the  airy feeling. Open a window.  Getting in synch with the season can make you feel lighter and brighter.

Take time to enjoy the sweetness in life.

Spring fling

graceyhitchcockClick on the topmost title top open

Spring is finally here! It is the perfect time to have a fling—with something new.

Try a new look or exercise routine, Mix things up. It doesn’t have to be drastic but it should be a change. If you always wear black why not try adding a trendy print to your look or bright yellow dress or jacket? If you are doing the same mindless plod at gym maybe it is time to try a class in yoga or Pilates. The point is the old proverb “a change is as good as a rest” is often true. A change or quick fling with something new can leave you feeling renewed. Try it – drink tea instead of coffee, get up earlier and go to sleep and dream. Just take a fling a doing things you don’t usually do.

Take time to enjoy the sweetness in life.
