Hollywood film star Leslie Caron was discovered by Gene Kelly while she was dancing in the

Ballet des Champs-Elysees. He picked her to be his co-star in An American in Paris.

She was just 19 when she debuted as his co-star.

An American in Paris and Gigi are the two films identify with Leslie Caron. They are also her first big Hollywood movie and her last. Caron has appeared in films and TV shows but she left Hollywood to raise a family shortly after her huge success in Gigi.

Recently, in CBS Sunday Morning interview with Jane Pauley, the actress spoke about how the business had changed for women. Caron seems to think opportunities for older women are improving.

“I think it’s the English who changed everything with the Maggie Smiths and the Judy Denches, those wonderful actresses,” said Caron. “Suddenly the public said, ‘Hey, wait a minute. I prefer looking at those ladies who have experience and wit and wisdom.”

Leslie Caron is determined to be “one of those ladies”. In 2007, she won an Emmy for her role as a rape victim on Law and Order.  I saw her performance and she was riveting!Leslie_Caron_-_Maruice_Chevalier_-_1957

While Leslie Caron at the height of her career was a triple threat able to act, sing, and dance, perhaps her greatest display of talent was in knowing how to use her big break. As she told Jane Pauley, “Good luck happens to a lot of people all the time, repeatedly. The important thing is to recognize good luck and to make good use of it.”

Life and are luck are sweet – make good use of yours!
