Fall’s fast fabulous fixes

Warm up your hair colour for fall with warmer copper and gold tone like Blake Lively. If you haven’t already fine-tuned your look for fall, now is the time to do it. Being in harmony with seasonal changes helps you look and feel more alive and vibrant.

Fab fall hair
If you colour or highlight your hair, it’s time to warm it up. Trade platinum and wheat tones for gold, honey, and copper highlights. If you are an ash blonde or a cool brunette ask your colourist to make your hair colour a bit more vibrant and intense to stand up to winter’s stronger northern light. Cool winter light can wash out shades that look great in summer’s golden light.

If you want to cut down on hair maintenance and salon expense for fall, ask your colorist to tone your highlights with glaze. Your hair will still have all the dimension of highlights. A glaze is a one-step translucent process that costs about $40. It is often the final step of the highlighting process at a very good salon, as it adds warmth and shine to your hair while improving the texture.

If you wear your hair long, get a trim to get rid of the dead ends. Invest in a good deep conditioner. Use it once or twice a week, especially if you heat style your hair. Be sure to use ion-charged ceramic brushes, flat irons, blow dryers, and heat rollers when styling your hair to cut down on damage and static. Using the right tools makes a difference in how your hair looks and feels. Good tools and products can be found at all price points. We like Pantene, Rene Furterer, Pureology, White Sands, and Redken among others. Finding the right products for your hair is personal. You need to read reviews carefully. Good hair can be pricey, but less expensive brands are excellent, too. I love Rene Furterer and Pantene products. Also try a sample of a pricy product before buying, or shop where you can return anything that is truly a bad fit for you.

Glowing skin
Stop moaning about needing a facial. If I had a dollar for every woman I hear complaining that she desperately needs to get to spa for a facial, darlings, I could employ my own live-in esthetician.
A spa facial from an expert is wonderful for your skin, but it is no substitute for good self-care. If your skin is blotchy and your pores are clogged, then you haven’t been taking care of yourself. No self-respecting beauty should let her skin get in a “desperate” condition. In addition to a daily regime of cleansing, nourishing, and moisturizing, you can also give yourself weekly “spa” treatments at home.

NeoStrata Exuviance Performance Peel AP25 is a blend of AHAs and PHAs including Glycolic Acid, Mandelic Acid and Gluconolactone. It is a salon quality peel that really gives you a glow by removing dead, dull surface skin cells. I love this peel. Use it once or twice week for a glow. A six-week supply cost $70. It takes only minutes for results that will bring you compliments. I am addicted to this peel and always get compliments after using it.

Dry skin needs to be pampered. Avène Soothing Moisture Mask infuses skin with moisture in 10 minutes. Apply it to a damp clean face and watch your skin hydrate. It costs only $24 for weeks of soft skin. This peel will visibly plump your dry skin and leave it feeling like a baby.

Dr. Murad Intensive C Peel boosts skins luminosity and reduces hyperpigmentation with a dose of antioxidants. I am addicted to this quick anti-aging beautifier. It leaves my skin radiant, costs $49, and lasts for weeks. This peel is the best blah-blaster I know!

If you have oily skin or T-zone make your pores seems to shrink with a clay mask. Kiehl’s Rare Earth Masque is a gentle blend of Amazonian White Clay oatmeal and Aloe Vera hydrated as it helps to clean and soothe block pores. This can leave a red, blotchy face looking cool, calm, and collected!

Your pretty fall face
Update your makeup for fall by trading sunny brownish bronzers for more flattering rosy and coral hues of a blusher. If you want to wear a bronzer year round, try one with a hint of pink or coral to ward off winter pallor. Chanel’s new highlighting powder and blush in Brompton Road, a warm pink colour at $80 is a gorgeous way to light up your face. Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls Blush, Natural Pearl, at $11 gives a natural radiant finish to your face. A pop of soft colour makes you look alive in cooler light.

Play up your eyes with a stroke of liner in a complementary colour. Experiment with soft pencils or a liquid liner. To avoid smears, set the liner with a dusting of powder before applying mascara. Watch green or hazel eyes come alive with a stroke of plum or deep black liner, accent blue eyes with warm brown and mink tones, and make brown eyes glow with copper, khaki, or deep plum liner.
