Fall fashion notes from the north

Chanel sweater dress spotted in Montreal, cosy and sexy

Fall is definitely in the air. I am just back from a quick trip to Toronto and Montreal. In a single week the weather went from tropical to decidedly chilly. The trip let us visit with dear friends and family. It also let me take a quick style-read on what will be hot for fall, as these two chic cites are well into the season.

In the window of Holt Renfrew on Montreal’s uber-chic Sherbrooke Street I spied a gorgeous, short, mohair coat and slim, belted sweater dresses. The thigh-grazing coat and dress were paired with black tights and thigh-high suede boots. The look had a 60s vibe and was the epitome of sexy-cozy.
In Toronto, I was stopped dead by an elegant woman in a slim, stunning graphic print dress. This trend started last year but has come into its own this fall with elegant prints on sophisticated frocks. The effect can be subtle and jaw-dropping. Proenza Schouler, Calvin Klein, and Roberto Cavalli – just to name a few – have all used these new prints to create sophisticated and unique fashion statements. I couldn’t resist picking up one myself in Montreal.
Darlings, in weeks to come we will bring detailed reports on what you will want and need for fall and winter.
