Consider the matter closed

NewGraceyPicw1Click on the top title to open and scroll  It used to be if you accepted an apology the matter was considered closed. Recently, I have noticed a disturbing trend; people accept apologies and then repeatedly bring up the offence.  I have seen this endless feuding on reality TV shows where one could speculate it is just more “drama of the camera”.

But I have also have friends who have just can’t let anything die. They report the original offence, the apology, and then they keep bringing up the whole saga to anyone who will listen. This rehash can go on for weeks, months, or even years.

To keep bringing up an incident after accepting an apology is disingenuous, bad form and a big bore.  Granted, there are acts are too hurtful to be forgiven with a simple “I’m sorry”. Say so if that is case and get on with it. There can also be good reasons to end toxic relationships.  But, once you accept an apology let the matter rest. If whatever happened still bothers you; discuss it with privately with a therapist or trusted friend.  Dragging up old disagreements robs life of its sweetness. So accept an apology or don’t but move on.

Make time for the things you enjoy and the people you love because, my darlings, that is truly where the sweet life lies.
