1. Style vs Fashion

Coco Chanel said “fashion fades, only style remains the same,” and this week life illustrated it. While Kim Kardashian displayed her overly-generous curves in a series of see-through garments and too-short skirts in Paris for Fashion Week, Amal Alamuddin shone like a classic Hollywood princess in striking couture ensembles. Kim and Kanye may strive to be the king and queen of fashion but George and Amul effortlessly project the glamour and style of old-time Hollywood royalty.

Amal Alamuddin is a beautiful model-slender brunette. She looked runway perfect in every outfit she wore, from the Dolce&Gabbana black Sophia Lorenand white stripped midi-dress to the short lace Giambattista Valli dress with hi-low bell skirt. The black and white midi-dress was reportedly sold out as soon as pictures of Alamuddin were seen. It is not surprising. The camera loves her. Photos of her in the graphic dress with wind blowing through her hair as she and George Clooney arrived and departed in a sleek cigarette boat reminded me of a young Sophia Loren.

Amul chose a sophisticated white pantsuit by Stella McCartney to wear to the civil ceremony. The bride wore it with a romantic white picture hat. The stunning red and black silk gown by Alexander McQueen that she wore to a pre-wedding dinner was the real show-stopper. The gown set off the bride’s brunette good looks and long legs with its red print and high-low hemline.

Looking at photos of George Clooney and his beautiful bride, it was impossible not to be reminded of more elegant time. I can only wonder if any of it was intentional as images of Sophia Loren and Cary Grant danced in my head. (RT: Cary Grant)Grant,_Cary_(Suspicion)_01_Crisco_edit

Coco Chanel’s familiar adage about style and fashion was never truer.
