What Do You Think is Sexy?

Really think about it for a minute. I don’t mean what the media, your brother, or your boyfriend think is sexy, but what you think is sexy? Now if you are reading this issue of DolceDolce at work, stop. Print it out or save it for later because this is too important and a little too steamy think about at work.
Many women never think about what they find sexy. Do you? They try to look sexy. Some try not to look sexy. They have opinions about what is sexy; they love the Pussycat Dolls or hate them. I am not sure the Pussycat Dolls are really sexy; I do find them kind of cute. Some people find lace sexy, others go for denim.

The Making of Le Rouge

I know it’s a cliché, but I find Paris sexy. Do you? But then, I also find Rome, London, Moscow and Montreal hot. Need I tell you, Sicily is sexy as hell. Actually it’s not an original observation, but all of Italy is sort of steamy. It’s not a Latin lover thing, at least not for me, although they have lots of fans. It’s the place: the food, the architecture, the art – it‘s all very delicious. Do you have geographical hot zone?
I hate to admit it but, I also find food and wine not just appealing, but sexy - very. There is not other word for it sometimes. I know it doesn’t affect everyone this way, but it can be very sensual. Not convinced? Rent the film Tom Jones before you make up your mind.

The Making of Le Rouge

I have always found French films from the 60’s hot. Recently Chanel commissioned Le Rouge, a homage to one of the sexist and most beautiful films of the period, Les Mepris by director Jean-Luc Godard and starring a ravishing Brigitte Bardot. The 1963 film is a cult classic, like another Bardot film of the period, And God Created Woman.

Le Rouge is an advertising film by Bettina Reims starring Julie Ordan. Together they recreate a stunningly sensual and iconic scene in the original film. With pouting red lips Julie seductively questions her husband: “Do you love my lips?” It’s captivating, sexy, and beautiful.
Ordon evokes the same irresistible innocence and tempting beauty that Bardot used to seduce the world almost 50 years ago. It’s subtle, timeless, and delicious. I was only disappointed that this fabulous little piece of art was deemed too sexy for Canadian TV and that it was not a full-length remake of the film. I am shocked that the commercial was deemed too sexy. I have seen things on television so gross, hideous, and offensive, that I can’t believe the sight of a tastefully-shown woman’s body is so offensive. Nor can I believe a playful conversation with her husband - even nude - is so harmful. Alas, taste and judgment, like sexiness, are very individual. I don’t know if it will air in the US, but I doubt it. You can see it on Youtube. Enter Rouge Allure.
Certain French films of that era are sexy because of their restraint. Brigitte Bardot and then Katharine Denevue with their tumbling hair and doe-eyes are provocative, but the films themselves had an appealing tension missing in today’s grittier fair.
Lot of things are sexy. I think the important thing is to think about what does it for you. Try not to forget about finding really sexy things in your day-to-day life. Don’t settle for a cheap cliché or say “not for me”, unless that is your considered choice. Life is too short to skimp on romance, sexy, or anything that gives it zip.
So darlings, be it a sojourn in Sicily, a good bottle of Pouilly Fuisse, or just the right shade of red Rouge Allure (it really is the sexist lipstick to wear with stilettos or Keds) – figure it and do it.

Dr. Bank – The Skin Doctor

How to Have the Best Skin at Any Age

Dr. David E. Bank, founder and director of The Center for Derm and author of Beautiful Skin: Every Woman’s Guide to Looking Her Best at Any Age, answers questions designed to help DolceDolce readers get the best skin at any age. He’s an expert witness for the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, member of the American Academy of Dermatology, American Medical Association, American Society of Liposuction Surgery, and American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery, and he’s on the Board of Directors of the New York State Dermatology Society
DD: What are the three most effective things, besides wearing sunscreen, that you can do to make your skin look younger and fresher?
Dr. Bank:
· Exfoliating. This can be done any number of ways, whether it’s with an exfoliating cleanser, masks, at home peel or microdermabrassion treatments. Or, you can use topical creams for topical creams on going exfoliation).
· Moisturize.
· Use products with antioxidants so that in addition to sun protection in sunscreen, you have active ingredients that block the atoms that cause damage from sun. The more you do to prevent damage now, the less you will have to do to correct later.
· Quit smoking, get eight hours of sleep, eat healthfully, and learn to manage stress.
DD: Is there any really effective way to combat dark circles, the kind you get even when you have had enough sleep?
Dr. Bank: Yes. You may be able to combat them with creams at home: Bleaching creams, old-fashioned Retin A, or retinol, all can be therapeutic against dark circles. We use a V-Beam laser in the office to get rid of dilated broken blood vessels. Fillers, such as Restylane, can be used under the eyes to get rid of shadowing and hollowing which can happen during aging. The fillers thicken skin and that combats darkness. Products with caffeine can also help on a short term basis by helping the blood flow. It’s a quick fix.
DD: Can you explain what exactly IPL is and does it really make your skin look better?
DD: What are the worst things you can do to your skin at ages: 20, 30, 40, and 50?
Dr. Bank: Not to wear sunscreen, going to tanning beds they are more damaging than natural sun, smoking, or doing anything to excess such as excessive exfoliation.
DD: What are some of the best things you can do for your skin at 20, 30, 40, and 50?
Dr. Bank:
· 20’s - Gentle cleansing, moisturizer, sunscreen
· 30’s - All of the above, but add in some product with active ingredients that help reverse sun damage and that helps to stimulate collagen growth, such as: Retin A, glycolic products or microdermabrassion.
· 40’s - If you were using over the counter products in your 30s you may want to go to your dermatologist to upgrade to prescription products.
· 50’s – Women are entering menopause. The skin is drying out so you may have to modify your daily routine. Use a mild cleanser and heavier moisturizers. Enhance with dermatologist treatments such as chemical peels, laser off any brown spots, or try Botox and Restylane.

We still love Edie Sedgwick-chic as channeled by Sienna Miller in the film Factory Girl. The original Andy Warhol and Edie, as well as the very popular indie film, have given rise some this season’s most fun fashion trends.

Food

Make a Marvelous Margarita

And as your perfect ten dry or you scan a foreign flick here is the recipe for a perfect Margarita. It was requested by one of our DolceDolce team. She told me she took it to California and it made a splash there. I’m flattered; the left coast is hard to please when it comes to beachy cocktails. This version isn’t authentic, but it’s easy to make. Using a microplane to zest the limes isn’t essential, but it makes it snap.
For one (multiply exactly to make a batch)
1 lime with the zest removed and placed in a shaker. (Wash the lime.)
Juice the lime and add it to the shaker.
1 ½ oz. tequila - I like a gold tequila, but use what you prefer.
½ oz. Cointreau. You can use Triple Sec, but I prefer Cointreau. I also like Blue Curaçao for a Blue Margarita, which is sexy and fun – and a little more tropical tasting.
Add 1 ½ tbsp frozen Minute Maid Limeaid to a shaker. Add ice and let stand five minutes. Shake and serve into salt-rimmed glasses. Use kosher salt.
You can blend this if you wish; I do not. If I feel diabolical, I use 2 oz. of tequila, but usually I’d rather have two drinks than a single strong drink.
So darlings I hope you are thinking about what turns you on. After all, it is spring and a young girl’s fancy turn to … let’s just keep it a delicious secret what a woman’s fancy turns to shall we? It’s all part of my campaign to remind you that life should always be a little bit sweeter.
So please sign-up if you haven’t, we are free, and forward t us on to a friend.
Until next week, have a decadent bubble bath, rent a frisky foreign film, and make sure you have always have a fabulous tube of lipstick at the ready. It’s perfect with everything - or with nothing at all.
