Shop summer sales like a stylist

Summer sales are the perfect time to pick up a designer sun hatSummer sale season is here. Use these tips to shop the sales like a pro..
Shop online
Shopping online is a great way to save time, compare prices, and find elusive items. Merchandise bought online also ships from retail warehouses and has not been picked over by shoppers.
Stock up on classic summer items
Seasonal sales are a great time to buy coveted items that might normally be out of your budget. Here is what to look for at summer sales:
Handbags and Totes
Look for classic shapes and styles in straw, raffia, white, or pastels. Expensive well-made made bags will last for seasons, and this is your chance to get one at a deep discount.
Classic T-shirts
Stock up on neutrals if you find them. T-shirts in bold summer colours always go on sale, so you see well-made tops in your favourite shades on sale grab them. Victoria’s Secret has fabulous T-shirt sales.
It is a great time to clean your pantie drawer and to trash ratty bras.
Classic summer shoes are also going for a song this time of year, so stock up on wedges, espadrilles, and flip-flops. These summer styles do not really change from season to season so it is a good time to add them to your collection.
If you have always wanted a dramatic designer sun hat, this is the time to start looking. This is also the best time of the Use seasonal sales to add a pricy raffia clutch to your collectionyear to pick up fabulous designer shades or a big piece of statement jewelry for a song.
Look for classic suits and cover-ups. Beach towels are also a good deal this time of year.
What not to buy on sale:
Sunscreen! Even though we all wear sunscreen at this time of year, you may see seasonal sales. Pick up some of your favourite brand, but do not buy more than you will use in a few months. Sunscreen does expire, and you want it to be fresh.
Beware of buying bathing suits and trendy summer dresses on sale, especially if you are the type who likes to be on the cutting edge. Even if you are not style-sensitive, a suit or dress that is “this year’s trend” will look dated next season. Unless it is a classic and you love it, leave it.
White jeans, skirts, or pants are almost impossible to find on sale. Jeans also change shape and style every season, so be careful.
Buying fashionable shoes at a seasonal sale can be tricky. Shoe styles date very subtly. A shoe bought a season ahead may look dated because the heel or toe is wrong.
The best places to shop in person or online are fine department stores and small boutiques. They have fabulous seasonal sales on high quality merchandise and very fair return policies. You should also check out lingerie on online sites such as:
Always ask or read the return policy at individual boutiques.

Looking for love?

Damona HoffmanIf you are single and looking for love, you won’t want to miss a word of DolceDolce’s interview with top dating coach Damona Hoffman. She is the expert advisor at as well as the author of the must-have guide to online dating, Spin Your Web: How to Brand Yourself for Successful Online Dating. She is also a regular contributor for The Huffington Post and host of the radio show, Dates & Mates with Dear MrsD.
Here are some of Damona’s tips for shining online:
DD: What should you consider when writing your online dating profile? Are there dos and don’ts?
DH: To have success in online dating, one must have a stellar profile but it’s hard to write about yourself. That’s why so many people come to professionals like me for help. Tell your story rather than giving a laundry list of what you like. So instead of saying, “I’m a fun, sporty girl who feels just as comfortable in sweats as I do in heels,” talk about how you went on an impromptu hike in three-inch heels and crushed the course. Of course, tell this story if it’s true. You get the idea. A woman who can hike in heels shows she’s spontaneous, resourceful, tough, and fun – all in one sentence.
Definitely don’t bash your ex, complain about life, or talk only about what you don’t want. DO showcase your humor, do post fun photos of yourself (up to five, TOPS), and do keep it to minimum. No need to tell your life story. Keep it short, around three paragraphs, and have fun with it. It’s not a resume; it’s who you are!
DD: How can you choose the right online dating site?
DH: Finding the right site starts with your absolute deal-breakers and marriage makers. If religion is important to you, go to a niche site like JDate or ChristianMingle. If you want another person to ski the slopes or surf some waves, find an outdoorsy-type site, such as If you want, choose from a larger pool of people and hit the top three sites: Match, OKCupid and eHarmony. And, as I always tell all my clients, it’s better to be on two sites than one. So join a pay site and a free site. It’s like being in two bars at once, widening your potential matches and increasing your chance for success.
DD: How do you weed out the losers, the crazies, the married, and other undesirables?
DH: While Catfishing is on the rise with an influx of fake profiles and people who never intend on meeting up in person, online dating is still quite safe. Once you make a match with someone after a few exchanges online, get offline as soon as possible. This helps weed out the crazies as well as helps pinpoint who is real, who is fake, and who is not going to maintain your interest. I recommend a phone call of at least 10 minutes before going on that first date. Your gut will let you know if this person is worth your time.
DD: What is it with men and texting? How do you move a relationship past texting and emailing? And once you are dating, how do you keep him from texting all the time instead of calling or actually meeting?
DH: I personally am not a fan of texting in courting, but it doesn’t stop men from using it to avoid face-to-face rejection. So be honest with him and tell him you’d love to hear his voice on the phone. I had a client who was asked out on a first date via text and she basically told him to shove it. He responded with a phone call essentially begging for another chance. She decided to give it a shot and ended up in long-term relationship with him. Now, while I don’t condone being rude, her honesty really attracted him to her. You have to be willing to let the idea of a guy go. If he doesn’t want to meet you in person, he’s probably not the real deal, so you have to move on.
DD: Do you have a list of dos and don’ts for a first date?
DH:First dates are not meant to be longer than an hour and half, TOPS. Skip dinner and just do drinks. Tea, coffee, cocktail – whatever. But know your limit and watch your drink. Listen, laugh, smile, and ask questions, but don’t give away too much. The idea is to figure out if you want to see him ever again, not what color your bridesmaids dresses will be. Get in and get out so you leave him wanting more.
DD: Is there an acceptable way to leave a really bad date?
DH: If you are in an uncomfortable situation or feeling awkward on a date, it’s always best to leave as quickly as you can. If you feel that your date is a whack-job and might be volatile, tell him you’re not feeling well and need to leave immediately. Always bring cash for a cab and ask the restaurant staff for help if you feel that you might be in danger. If your date is just a run-of-the-mill boring, jabber jaw, and you know you want out, simply tell him that you appreciate his time and wish him the best of luck in his quest for love, but the two of you aren’t a match.
DD: What type(s) of photos should you use on your dating profile?
DH: In my book Spin Your Web: How to Brand Yourself for Successful Online Dating I break down the must-have photos for your profile, but to sum it up, never more than five photos tops, and only of you. Not your car or surfboard or garden, but of YOU! The three most important shots are an action shot for instance, you on that surfboard, then one of you quietly reading a book, and a good UP-TO-DATE shot of your face. Photo editing is recommended, but only to crop, lighten, and remove red-eye, not to give you blue eyes or slimmer legs. Be honest with who you are and showcase your best assets. Choose pictures that speak a thousand words

City SYN, the newest skin smoother

City Cosmetics has just released a new anti-aging serum called City SYN,
and it has already sold out.
City SYN contains the hot new anti-aging ingredient SYN-AKE, a synthetic version of snake venom that  helps to relax muscle contractions and smooth out skin to reduce the look of lines and wrinkles. SYN-AKE peptides are also clinically proven to increase elasticity, so skin stays firmer and more youthful.
City SYN also contains Aloe leaf extract, Palmitoyl Peptides to help stimulate collagen, as well as extracts from the Ginkgo Biloba tree that contain antioxidants that help reduce the effects of aging by protecting against free radical damage.
If you shy away from needles but are looking for an effective way to smooth wrinkles, City-SYN is definitely something you need to try.
City says, “City SYN has revolutionized the way we treat wrinkles with its silky, lightweight formula infused with SYN-AKE, a rare form of synthetic snake venom.”  According to City, “Celebrities like Gwyneth Patrol, Kate Moss, and Victoria Beckham are all abuzz over its anti-aging, wrinkle-reducing properties.”
I’m not surprised. I recently tried City SYN and I loved it. It isn’t as dramatic as a few injections of Botox but after only a week I could see the effects. City SYN has a definite tightening and smoothing effect. The serum is also light and very moisturizing.
Also, we have agreed to join with City Cosmetics to help promote their contest for their new Dragon’s Blood Beauty Elixir. We have not done this in age but have had an interest in contests and this is a good one!
We also loved City-SYN! So check this out and let us know how you feel about it!

Bye-bye frizz!

Having your freshly styled hair turn into a frizzy mess due to hot humid weather can be frustrating. It is enough to make a girl want to stay inside.  Instead try Nexxus Frizz Defy Frizz Protection. This new line can help keep your hair looking fabulous on the most humid days. Living in Atlanta, I battle humidity daily. I loved what this line did for my hair the first time I tried it. It helped my hair survived a hot humid day and a work out without going limp and frizzy. A combination of Argan and coconut oil helps to keep hair smooth while two styling products – a crème and light oil – help to lock out humidity without making hair greasy.  My own fine hair was still bouncy and shiny after using both of them. Nexxus Frizz Defy Frizz Protection Hair Spray holds styles in place while letting hair move.

If you have damaged your skin with too much sun, start repairing it now. Sun exposure ages skin at the cellular level. Osmotics Renovage Cellular Longevity Serum contains Renovage or Teprenone to help extend the life of cells by protecting cell’s telomeres. The rejuvenating serum also contains a Tripeptide/Protein combination to promote collagen, Spilanthes Acmella Flower Extract (a natural extract) to support the extra cellular matrix or collagen fiber for smoother, tighter, more toned contours and Ergothioneine, a mega antioxidant. This is a serious, science-based serum to address and improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkle, large pores , redness, and skin tone. I am very impressed with this line and its results.
For your delicate eye area, which is often where the signs of premature skin aging first appear, try Renovage Cellular Eye Repair. The light emollient formula moisturizes as it helps to minimize the signs of aging with Renovage. This is one of the most effective eye creams I have ever used and must-try for women over 40. It is also extremely non-irritating and very well-tolerated by sensitive eyes.

Believable bronze!

JLo is known for elegant use of bronzersBronzers are tricky. All you have to do is take one look at a few of the overly-tanned and brazenly-bronzed reality stars running around these days to know that it is easy to go from golden goddess to scary copper cougar. These potent products used the wrong way can add years to your look, making a 20-year-old look 30, and a 40-year-old look like her own mother.
Not only do bronzers require a light touch but they also need to be a flattering shade for your complexion. Be sure to look at the colour in direct sunlight.
Guerlain makes some of the best bronzers you can find. Guerlain introduced the original Guerlain Terracotta bronzer in 1984. It was an instant success. Guerlain also was one of the first companies to understand that bronzers, like all other makeup, had to come in different shades. One of my favourites is their oversized Limited Edition Terra Neroli Giant Bronzing Powders. The shades of shimmering peach, bronze, and gold are designed to give your face and body a radiant glow.
Two other fabulous bronzers I mentioned briefly last week are a liquid bronzer from Josie Marin and a powder from Wet N’ Wild. One is a luxury product and the other a drugstore brand. Both are good value and fabulous on.
Josie Maran Bronzing Argan Oil is a luxurious, natural way to get a little glow. Maran’s Bronzing Argan Oil contains Argan oil which is rich in Vitamin E and essential fatty acids. You can apply touch where you need a lift. The sheer colour can be applied for different levels of intensity. The colour of this bronzer is beautiful. It has warmth that is not apparent when you look at it right out of the bottle. You need to blend it to see the beauty. You can make it lighter or darker by applying more or less of it. This is excellent if you are very fair-skinned.
Buy it from QVC and get a travel size of Josie's Argan Color Stick in Pink Peony, a gorgeous, wearable pink for lips and cheeks, which is perfect for this look. This is a gorgeous bronzer; it looks both sexy and elegant for day and evening.
If you are looking for pure shimmer at a bargain price try Wet N’ Wild Coloricon Bronzer SPF 15. I am in love with this bronzer. I wear the light pearlized shade, Reserve Your Cabana with the reddish-bronze shade, Bikini Contest. (There is also a classic bronze Ticket to Brazil.) The quality of the powder is amazing. It feels like silk and looks very natural. At only $3.99 the Coloricon bronzer comes in three shades.

Chef Cat Cora’s savoury-sweet Mediterranean treat

Kalmata olive cupcake with brown sugarI love this unusual recipe for Cat Cora’s Kitchen by Gaea’s Feta and Olive Oil Cakes. I learned to really appreciate the combination of salty cheese and sweet honey years a few ago on a special tour of San Francisco’s wonderful Farmer’s Market. You may be shocked at how delicious feta, honey, and olives are together. Try these little treats for your next alfresco party.
150 gr 5.30 ounces feta cheese
100 gr 3/4 cup powdered sugar
50 gr 2 1/4 Tbsp. honey
100 gr 1/2 cup Cat Cora's Kitchen DOP Kalamata (Sitia) extra
virgin olive oil
100 gr 1 cup all purpose flour
100 gr 3.50 ounces ground almonds
1 tsp. baking powder
Cat Cora's Kitchen pitted Kalamata olives, cut in half
Brown sugar for garnishing
Preheat oven to 347 degrees Fahrenheit.
Process the cheese with the sugar and honey in a mixer until smooth.
Add olive oil.
Combine flour with the ground almonds and baking powder and add to bowl while mixing. Divide batter among 6 greased one-use individual cake molds and top each with half and olive.
Sprinkle top of batter with brown sugar and bake for about 25 minutes.

Why don’t you?

Gracey Hitchcock www.luxuryof pearls.comWhy don’t you…?
Before she was the editor of Vogue, Diana Vreeland wrote a column for Harper’s Bazaar called: Why don’t you? In it she made suggestions to the readers. I have always adored the idea, so I have borrowed  it this week.
Why don’t you:
Shut off your phone and computer one afternoon this weekend and read – so relaxing and good for your head!
Call an old friend and catch up.
Do your own pedicure this week and relax on your bed with magazines while your toes dry.
Take an evening to deep-condition your hair and put a mask on your face.
Meet a friend at the museum after work. See an exhibit and enjoy a glass of wine!
On another note, pearls are one of the hottest trends for fall. All the chicest designers have them, and so do I at my online store. My pearls are all real and fabulous. They are comparable to what you can buy for hundreds of dollars and more elsewhere. Feel free to email me any questions.
Have a sweet week my darlings! Don’t waste a single day of summer.
