Arctic Zero is a frozen dessert with only 300 calories a pint. It is actually good for you; its creators call it a frozen protein shake. That is a fair description but I would add it is a really tasty delicious frozen protein shake. I love ice cream and I watch my weight so I think it is a great option. I really like the new Buttery Pecan flavour and can’t wait to try Salted Carmel but there are 15 flavours to choose.

The makers of Arctic Zero explained the secret of their sweet dessert this way: “We combined monk fruit concentrate with organic cane sugar, which has slightly higher calories, and then added eight grams of fiber to each pint of Arctic Zero. Having been used in Asia for over a thousand years, and coming from one of the sweetest melons in the world, monk fruit concentrate is 150 times sweeter than sugar, and one gram replaces 40 teaspoons of sugar!”

They also added eight grams of chicory root to help increase calcium absorption.

Each pint has less than 150 calories. It is also fat-free, low on the glycolic index, has high fiber, contains14 grams of whey protein per pint, is suitable for lactose intolerants and those on low-carb diets, and is kosher and Gluten-free.

Arctic Zero is unlikely to appeal to anyone who is not seriously watching their weight or otherwise restricted from real ice cream. But for those of us who crave cold, creamy low-cal, fat-free, gluten- free treat, it is a tasty alternative. I really enjoyed it.

It is also a thoughtful treat to have on hand, if you are having over friends who are lactose intolerant or forced to be on low glycemic diet.

You can find it at Publix, Kroger, and Wholefoods, and many other grocery stores.
