Now is the time to shop summer sales. Prices are 40 to 60 percent off. But to shop a sale correctly, you need a plan! Even if you aren’t comfortable buying your clothes and shoes online use the Internet to locate items and learn prices. Read return and shipping policies carefully.

Online discount stores such as https://www.ruelala.com/boutique/ and http://www.ideel.com/

can offer deep discounts on popular brand name and designer items. They both charge a flat $9.95 fee for 30 days of shipping no matter how much you order.  Read the return policy and other details carefully.

American Express cardholders can sign up for Shoprunner https://www.shoprunner.com/non_member/home/

This is a free service that gets you free two-day delivery from many popular stores such as Neiman Marcus, Last Call, and Lord and Taylor — to name just a few. I use this all the time and love it! If you are for bargains I recommend shopping from the store’s own sites. Shoprunner, however, will show you items from all of its merchants. I find that time-consuming and annoying as I have very definite store preferences. If don’t you might like it.  You can find the link for Showrunner at check out for participating stores.Furlasale

Summer sales are the time to buy a beautiful classic handbag

Right now you can stock up on:

Designer lingerie: You will find expensive luxury lines – such as Cosabella, Hanky Panky, La Pearla, Natori and others – at 40 to 60 percent off at better department stores and lingerie boutiques. Now is time to splurge on lacy luxury.

Classic handbags from pricy prestige line such as Furla and Cole Haan. July sales are also good time to pick up a lavish evening clutch that won’t date. Choose bags with classic lines made of beautiful materials.

July sales are a good time to add well-made classics to your wardrobe. So look for:

Classic dresses such as a DVF wrap dress or St. John knit shift. (But don’t buy a brand or designer because of its cache. Buy it only if looks fabulous on you.)

    Leather gloves

Cashmere sweaters and scarves have to all go to make room for fall merchandise.

You can often find socks and shapewear from your favourite lines at rock bottom prices.

Good quality jewelry and designer silk scarves and fabulous accessories such as designer umbrellas are all available now.

These items make great gifts so you can use a summer sale to get a jump on your holiday shopping.

Buying things you don’t need because the markdown is “so good” or it is made by a designer you love and can usually not afford it. No one looks good in a label.

Use a tape measure to check your size against size guides. Even if you shop in stores, knowing your real up-to-date size is helpful. Be aware that sizes vary from brand to brand. And, like it or not, many of us also vary in size from year to year.

Shoes, dresses, and jeans can date very quickly.  So be careful about buying a trendy item.

Don’t shop sales in a hurry, such as when you are tired.

Another reason I prefer shopping online is often the items I receive are brand new and still in original plastic wraps. Store merchandise can be “shop worn” so check all items carefully for damage.
