Some fashion insiders call the Academy Awards the “biggest night” or the “super bowl” of fashion. I am not so sure. I look at all the shows to spot trends, and I think you can spot more at the Golden Globes, which is more of party. But there is no doubt that Hollywood stars go all out for Oscar!  This year we could spot quite a few clear trends you will be seeing all this spring and summer.

Here are the biggest and most wearable trends we spotted:

The red carpet was covered in white and we liked it. White looks cool, elegant, and clean. Avoid a dress that is outlandish and over-styled, such as Marion Cotillard’s gown this year. The fabric was lovely but the dress was too much. The clean lines of Reese Witherspoon’s Tom Ford Gown and Jenna Dewan-Tatum’s Zuhair Murad Couture gown were much more flattering.

Red on the red carpet can look fabulous or fufu. The gowns worn this year by Dakota Johnson, in a one-shoulder red gown from St. Laurent, and Rosamund Pike in a slim lace gown by Givenchy Haute Couture were chic and stunning.

The chicest and most drop-dead elegant black dress we spotted was on the young Australian actress Margot Robbie. She wore a beautiful black St. Laurent gown with sheer sleeves. Her whole look was that of a young Catherine Deneuve. Sienna Miller looked cool and chic in a beautiful black and navy dress from Oscar de la Renta.

    Shimmer and jeweled

Many people considered Emma Stone to be the standout of the night. The classic lines and color of her green beaded dress from Elie Saab complemented Emma’s beautiful skin and leading-lady face.RosamundPike1.jpg

Anna Kendrick glowed in a coral, jeweled-necklace gown by Thakoon. The dress, with a full skirt, had a jeweled halter neckline that showed off Anna’s pretty shoulders and face.

    The takeaway

This year’s fashion standouts stood out by choosing dresses and colours that flattered their bodies and features. They kept their hair and makeup soft and sexy, but glamorous enough to “celebrate the occasion!
